8 years ago on 22nd of July, 2011, what shouldn’t happen happened. A right extremist terrorist planted a bomb in Oslo and intruded a youth camp and shot, killing 77 people. 69 of those were youths, not much older than myself at the time. It shook our whole country, and impacted the nation. We had not experienced this type of terror before. Ever since that day 8 years ago, this was brewing in my mind. I knew I had to choreograph something, and though I can only imagine what the terror for those teenagers were like, it chokes me up just as much every time I allow myself to think about it. Most of my LIPA friends saw this piece at the Choreo Comp before Christmas, but I feel it is important to remember the 77 victims still, 8 years since the tragedy happened. I knew it had to be just right, because honouring the victims without a piece of music that really inspired me wasn’t something I wanted to do. And after many hours of trying to find the right music, I asked the amazingly talented and lovely Camilla Alice Sky if she would do an arrangement of the amazing song written by Nordahl Grieg. She couldn’t have made it any more perfect. I also knew I wanted my 3 besties Rose, Hedda and Julie to be in this piece. They understood everything I tried to explain, and though it was a very strange rehearsal process, watching them perform this piece pulled all my heart strings and cut them one by one. I didn’t have to direct them, because they already knew. We all knew the horror we felt on that day. This is a really long post, but I felt the need to explain. The worst thing we can do is forget. We need to talk about it, we need to remember the victims, we need to honour their memories. Don’t forget them. I created this piece for them, to tell just a fraction of the story for someone who might be unaware, or had forgotten. Vi glemmer aldri.
